CEST releases its first White Paper

The Centre for Society and Technology Studies – or Centro de Estudos Sociedade e Tecnologia (CEST) – has just released its first White Paper. The document aims to discuss the impact of new technologies on society.

The first article, authored by Vera Kerr, researcher at CEST, lawyer and doctoral student at Poli-USP, portrays the clash between the old and the new economy in the dispute between taxi and Uber business models.

Uber is an application-based service for smartphones that handles the connection between passenger and ordinary drivers, when willing to make people use the transport service. The service is seen by taxi drivers as an illegal competitor.

Thus, the analysis of Vera Kerr reveals the arguments of each side of this discussion, both the old and the new economy, providing an insight into the impact of technological advances in the business model of individual transport.
